BDC Leverage Versus Portfolio Mix Update

Summary

• Now that BDCs are mostly done reporting Q2 results I will have a series of updates comparing expense/return ratios, leverage, portfolio mix, with discussions of impacts to dividend coverage and risk.

• This update focuses on leverage (debt-to-equity net of cash) and portfolio asset mix. BDCs with higher quality portfolios can support higher leverage.
